For those interested in traveling to Botswana, this excerpt speaks volumes:
“Botswana has a population of 2 million people and tourism forms a major component of the income earned by the Botswana government. is a form of revenue is referred to as invisible exports (funds come in but nothing leaves the country).
Tourism is the second largest revenue earner for Botswana after diamond mining and is responsible for 12% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Tourism provides 8% of all employment in Botswana. Although it is a very important part of our economy Botswana does not rank in the top 10 tourism destinations as far as volume is concerned. Morocco, in first place, gets 10 million while South Africa is the holder of second place with 8 million tourists per year. Namibia is ranked 8 with 1 million tourists per year and Botswana is ranked 12 with 850 000 tourists per year growing on an average of 8.5% per year. Despite this, Botswana is one of the top rated destinations for wildlife safaris and, in the opinion of many people, the finest safari destination on earth. Botswana has always had a policy of ‘high financial yield, low impact’. this means that it is a very expensive destination with low capacity in terms of numbers. Despite our tourism numbers being lower than Namibia, our total revenue from tourism is higher.”
Plan ahead, this safari destination is in high demand for good reason. We try to plan as much as a year in advance.
I would love to share it with you. That can be arranged.
